3. Authority
denotes rule, control, influence, weight, permission, privilege, and power to act
when someone has authority they have charge of others with responsibility beyond the norm
exousia (ex-oo-see'-ah) conferred power; delegated empowerment (authorization)
“empowered because authorized”

4. Authority
Matthew 5:21-48
“You have heard that it was said to the people long ago… But I tell you…
Indicating Jesus’ authority even over the Law of Moses
The one who follows Jesus must be a changed person!
A changed person has spiritual authority
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NASB)
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
Ezekiel 36:26-27
A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will put my spirit within you, and make you follow my statutes and be careful to observe my ordinances.

7. In Jesus’ name (In His authority)
“In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages, they will pick up serpents; and [even] if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will get well.” (Mark 16:17-18)
“I will do whatever you ask for in my name” (John 14:13-14; 16:24)

8. In Jesus’ name (In His authority)
Peter cured a lame man ‘in the name of Jesus’ (Acts 3:6; 4:7-10)
Baptism, forgiveness of sins and salvation were brought ‘in Jesus’ name’ (Acts 19:5; Luke 24:47)
The Gospel was proclaimed ‘in Jesus’ name’ (Acts 9:27-28; 4:17-20;5:28,40)
Evil spirits were cast out ‘in Jesus’ name’ (Acts 16:18; 19:13-16)
