Rock Cycle
2
Three major types of rocks:
1. Igneous 2. Sedimentary 3. Metamorphic
3
Two types of Igneous: 1. Intrusive 2. Extrusive
4
How are sedimentary rocks formed?
cementation compaction
5
How are metamorphic rocks formed?
heat pressure
6
The Rock Cycle
7
40) Rocks at the Earth’s surface weather, forming sediments that are buried. These sediments are compacted, heated, and often recrystallized into new rock.
8
41) The rock cycle explains how one rock type can be transformed into another.
9
42) The Rock Cycle is continuous; it never ends.
10
43) Any rock type can undergo weathering to form sediment.
11
44) Igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks undergo weathering.
12
45) The beginning of the rock cycle is not possible to identify because it is a never ending cycle.

Rocks can change into other rocks
Rocks can change into other rocks! The stuff that rocks are made from stays the same, but the rocks do not. Over time rocks are recycled into new rocks. Earth continually recycles rocks!!!
