Presentation on theme: "Getting to know your disclosure document!"— Presentation transcript:

1 Getting to know your disclosure document!
Great, I am so excited! This is going to be awesome Baby! Getting to know your disclosure document!

2 There will be a quiz next time!
Watch for those things that are underlined, they will be on the quiz! Take some notes! 

3 MY PHILOSOPHY: I’m a strong believer in “growth mindset” when it comes to art. A “fixed mindset” believes that either you are talented, intelligent, gifted person or you are not and there is nothing you can do about it. A person with a “growth mindset” believes that with hard work and persistence anyone can become “intelligent”, “gifted” or “talented.

4 There is no such thing as a talent fairy!
“Abracadabra! Now you can do art!”

5 I believe in the power of “YET”!
I can’t do it . . . It doesn’t look good . . . I don’t get it . . . I’m not good at it . . . This is not what I want it to look like . . . YET! YET! YET! YET!

6

7 Grading procedures – Academic grade:
20% is attendance/participation (I do this because I want to give you points for showing up and trying even if you haven’t “got it” YET). Rest of the grade is based on % of points earned for: Writing in Journal daily Sketchbook (Art Foundations class only) Learning activities Quizzes Art history project Homework ART PROJECTS (meeting the criteria)

8 Student and Teacher responsibilities:
You You mean I am responsible for my own grade? Students should: Earn enough points for desired grade. Keep track of assignments and due dates Check academic and citizenship grades often Inform teacher of mistakes quickly Save ALL work until after grades are given. Teacher should: Grade/correct assignments Record scores in computer. Help students know what to do to get a better grade (DOES NOT WORK IF YOU WAITED UNTIL THE LAST WEEK OF THE TERM!)

9 What is a citizenship grade?
Citizenship grades are a reflection of 3 things: Attendance Punctuality Behavior (doing what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it)

10 Why is a Citizenship grade important?
In every class you will receive a “academic” AND a “citizenship” grade. You must have enough passing “academic” AND “citizenship” grades in order to graduate! You must have passing citizenship grades in order to participate in extracurricular activities.

11 TOP 10 WAYS TO LOSE CITIZENSHIP POINTS:
UnexcusedTardies Unexcused Absences Playing on electronic devises, texting or calling Not Working in class Not being prepared for the day Leaving with out a hall pass Being Dishonest Not cleaning up Leaving early Disrupting/Disrespect I’m a little angel – I would never do anything like that!

12 Class Fees: Take care of your class fee, by Friday, January 19th!
After this date you will need to bring me the receipt when you pay it! No material until “take care of” your class fee!

13 Materials All materials are covered by the class fee except for Painting class. Painting classes need to provide their own brushes and palette (can be purchased from the school for $20). All classes may need to occasionally bring things from home.

14 journal We write in journals daily and turn in for points periodically, so, DON’T LOSE YOUR JOURNAL! MAKE UP YOUR JOURNAL ASAP if you skip a day.

15 Sketch books Drawing classes will work in a sketch book almost everyday. We will turn it in periodically for points, so, DON’T LOSE YOUR SKETCH BOOK! We will talk about sketch books more later.

16 homework HOMEWORK IS IMPORTANT!
If you want to be successful in college – get used to doing homework! You should have a method of keeping track of your homework (i.e. planner, reminder in your phone, etc.) I will do occasional homework checks. If you do not have your homework it drops to ½ credit next time and no credit after that. (You would need to do extra credit to make up the lost points.)

17 Extra credit (& re-dos)
You can earn up to 30 points extra credit per term. You can do extra art projects, you can visit an Art Museum or I have some art magazines you can read and answer questions. I also allow “re-dos” ON ART PROJECTS (not journals or homework check) IF they are turned in no more than 2 weeks after the dead line.

18 Late work: THIS IS NEW!!! Meeting deadlines is an important life skill that will serve you well in college and jobs in the future. I want to help you develop this important habit; that is why I have consequences for turning work in late. I expect you to turn in assignments on time; however, I realize that occasionally you need extra time. So, if you are not finished when I collect the assignment I will you give you a “late work contract”. This contract needs to be signed by you and the teacher and can give you up to 2 weeks extra time. If you break the contract or never make a contract you will lose points on your assignment (up to 50%)! Due dates are written in journals and posted on the class website if you forget ( I don’t accept late work the last week of the term it needs to be made up before then!

19 honesty I expect 100% honesty (No lying, cheating, deceiving, etc.)
If I catch you not being 100% honest you will lost up to 20 citizenship points. I have no sense of humor about dishonesty.

20 expectations PARTICIPATION RESPECT Prepared Yourself Good attitude
Do assignments Use time wisely Join discussions Clean up RESPECT Yourself Other students Teacher Equipment and supplies Not texting or playing on devices while I’m talking.

21 Leaving class DON’T LEAVE CLASS WITHOUT A HALL PASS!
If you do you will lose citizenship points and get marked as an unexcused absence (even if it is 2 minutes before the bell rings)

22 Hall passes When ya gotta go ya gotta go! You can use the hall pass up to 3 times per term (JUST ASK AND SIGN OUT). If you don’t use them you can use them for extra credit at the end of the term.

23 Tardies REALLY, REALLY try to get to class on time!
YOU are responsible for what you missed if you are tardy. If you are late, BE SURE TO SIGN IN or you will be marked absent.

24 absences If you miss school for a legitimate reason, including school excused absences, you have ONE WEEK to find out what you missed and make it up turn in with a note of what day you were absent. Students with UNEXCUSED absences will NOT be allowed to make up the work. If you choose to skip class you choose to get a zero!

25 How do I find out what I missed?
The EASIEST way to find out what you missed or are going to miss because of an excused absence, is to go to the class website site and pull up the journal entry for the day! That’s so easy!

26 Signing and returning Everyone will be happy, happy, happy if you get the last page of the disclosure document signed (you and parent or guardian) and returned by NEXT CLASS PERIOD! Don’t forget to sign the Reproduce/Display Permission Form as well!

27 Class Website: http://www.shhsart.com/ The class website is:
It has a calendar of assignments and due dates, all journal entries, worksheets, power points used in class, examples, student art work and a lot more. Get familiar with it right away! Check it out ASAP!
