WHAT I COULD NOT DO FOR MYSELF!
DEVOTION & PRAYER JESUS DID FOR ME WHAT I COULD NOT DO FOR MYSELF! Luke 10:33-34 (NIV) But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.

Open Discussion of Scenarios
LET’S TALK Open Discussion of Scenarios
7
SCENARIO #1 You have been asked to serve as ‘lead/head’ clergy for the next Kairos weekend. What is your role?
8
SCENARIO #2 You are serving as Clergy for a Kairos Torch Weekend. One of the youth asks if he can talk with you in private. During that conversation he confesses that he has had sexual contact with another offender that was not consensual. He wants to confess this to you and asks you to pray for his forgiveness. As clergy, what do you do? What issues are involved?
9
SCENARIO #3 One of the participants at your table is blatantly opposed to Christian beliefs and makes disparaging comments during discussion time. Instead of the comments diminishing, they become more frequent and intense. The Table Leader has tried to ignore the comments and redirect the discussion, but to no avail. The Table Assistant is strangely silent. As clergy, what do you do?
10
SCENARIO #4 During a Kairos Inside weekend, you are serving at a table with a fellow volunteer who is the Table Leader for the first time. As the first full day progresses, the Table Leader consistently asks questions about life in the prison, which eventually begins to dominate the conversation. As clergy, what do you do?
11
SCENARIO #5 The weekend Leader for an Inside Weekend has recruited a Clergy for the upcoming Weekend, but is concerned about his qualifications and takes his concerns to Advisory Council. His qualifications are: Some Bible College (dropped out mid way in Jr. year). He is not ordained. He is currently preaching at several rural churches on weekends. All who know him agree, “He’s a great guy and has a heart for the Lord.” He and Advisory Council are uncertain about “Privileged Communication” issues.
12
CLERGY TALKERS vs. WALKERS
Always ready to give a solution Talks (preaches) more than listens Thinks they are the ‘answer person’ Promotes condemnation Exercises power and control Goes outside the Riverbanks Clergy Walkers Provides spiritual support Displays a servant’s heart Listens without judgment Encourages participation Actively participates (takes notes) Are open and honest Remains in the Riverbanks
13
May your life preach more loudly than your words!
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13:1
14
It’s good to be a Christian and know it; it’s better to be a Christian and show it
May the work I've done speak for me. May the service I give speak for me.
15
You can preach a better sermon with your life than with your lips.
I may be the only bible some may ever read.
17
ADDITIONAL SCENARIOS The following scenarios can be used as discussion topics amongst your Advisory Council clergy team.
18
SCENARIO #6 You notice a leader or team member is having a difficult time with another team member during the weekend. The interaction begins to affect the leader/team member, and emotions become visible and needs to be addressed before the end of the day. As clergy, what do you do?
19
SCENARIO #7 During a very emotional counseling session, a participant makes an inappropriate advance or displays behavior that is not welcome. As clergy, what do you do?
20
SCENARIO #8 A Clergy team member has different sexual preference - is this acceptable on Kairos team? As clergy, what do you do?
21
SCENARIO #9 You are Head Spiritual Director at a Kairos Outside Weekend and one of the speakers goes seriously outside the Riverbanks during a Talk. How do you handle it? What do you do?
22
SCENARIO # 10 The prison chaplain comes to you and asks why Kairos Inside graduates are no longer included in the Forgiveness Ceremony. You explain that Kairos guidelines indicate Kairos graduates do not participate. You later learn from a fellow team member the chaplain is planning a separate Forgiveness Ceremony for the Kairos graduates serving in the kitchen. When you approach the chaplain and tell him/her the manual does not specify a separate service for graduates, he/she tells you the manual does not say we can’t do it. As clergy, what do you do?
