Subculture and co-culture A subculture is a segment of society that shares a distinctive pattern of customs, folkways, and values that differs from the pattern of the larger society. It is a culture existing within a larger, dominant culture. “Sub” implies inferior so “co” is used to indicate the idea of equality.
