Legislative Solutions - Chicago’s Law
Fingerprinting and background checks for all store employees Submit a Safety Plan Participate in state-of-the-art training to prevent gun trafficking Sell only one handgun a month per buyer Mandatory, annual audit of the store’s inventory to help detect theft and trafficking Make store records available to police for inspection at all reasonable times Videotape the point of sale to discourage traffickers and buyers who use false identification
17
Other Legislative Solutions
Effective local and state laws for curbing gun trafficking: Licensing Gun Dealers (no current IL law) Background checks for private sales (IL law since 2014) Reporting of lost or stolen guns (IL law since 2014) Deterrence Failure to check if buyer has FOID card is a misdemeanor Failure to adequately records is a petty offense Federal bills: Background checks for all private sales Anti-trafficking laws
