Why is Music Important? As the emphasis on STEM education increases, and common core group work is embraced by the district, music education is a big advantage to students: Well documented link between Music and Math in the brain Music students learn to Work as a group Adjust and be flexible Feel emotion and be empathetic Work Hard - performance based test are very motivating! (This is why Colleges LOVE music students )

Supporting Music School Site Support District Support Parent Support
OPUSD has made a commitment to Music in the District as part of their “STEAM” initiative. Hundreds of thousands of dollars over the last few years have been allocated to ensure music education is available to MCMS and OPHS Students. School Site Support Both school Principals (Brad Benioff and Kevin Buchannan) have committed PFA and Stipend money to help the music program. Parent Support As parents of music students we also need to support our students in their commitment to music . Time: Early Jazz Band, Practicing at night, Attendance at music events Money: $50 Donation / Polo Shirts ( Band) or T Shirts ( Choir)/ Funding Trips/ OPIMA School Site Support Parent Support District Support
