Governance’s Role in Integration How to Identify needs Capabilities to seek out Questions 2016 Primeur ©

Governance is key to managing the increasing flow of information from emerging technologies like Hybrid & Cloud Integration, API Management and IoT. 2016 Primeur ©

THE PROBLEM OF GOVERNANCE
What are the data flows in my infrastructure? Who is in charge of them? Who generated them, who will be using them? Do my flows move correctly in my infrastructure, respecting the specified phases and defined time frames? Are my sensitive and critical data secure during transfers? Where exactly in my infrastructure, at this point in time, is a particular file located? 2016 Primeur ©
6
THE PROBLEM OF GOVERNANCE
Can I migrate the current data flow approaches to more secure and controlled ones? Can I comply with Auditing (i.e. SOX) rules on transfers? Can I do Capacity Planning to meet increased traffic needs? How much time do I spend in solving a problem or in answering a user's request wishing to know the status of a transfer? 2016 Primeur ©

INTEGRATION LIFECYCLE
Most products focus on this, the visible part of the project, that seems to be more important But the most valuable area is this! Modeling is essential 2016 Primeur ©

GOVERNANCE OBJECTIVES
Visibility — Who is the sender, who is the receiver and what file transfer process is being used? Management and Monitoring — Where is the file, and where should it be? Measurement — What metrics are associated with the process incorporating file transfer? Enforcement — What policies and processes enable or constrain the file transfer, including access, authentication and performance? Provisioning — How are senders, receivers and systems added to or removed from the MFT solution, and how are their expectations captured? Validation — Is everything operating as it was designed to, and as it should? 2016 Primeur ©

Use Cases

USE CASE - FINANCIAL In Financial Markets it is very important to manage SLA to internal services and Business Partners Merchant Banks have a high commitment to their business users Real-time transactions Wire-transfers Account Inquiries Batch Transactions Broker transactions Deposits/Withdrawals Account Reconciliation daily If a transaction is not delivered on-time the BANK has to pay penalties or may lose money because of late sell or buy transactions Reacting properly when a data transaction will NOT to meet the SLA, saves SLA penalties 2016 Primeur ©

USE CASE – FINANCIAL cont’d
A single inbound financial transaction consists of several processing steps that spans platforms Receive data Validate (decrypt/loss prevention) Transform data format to target interface Load into target system Provide receipt to sender Each step needs to be logged, validated, tracked, audited and monitored Governance is able to provide this detailed level of feedback to Business Users and partners 2016 Primeur ©
12
USE CASE – Manufacturing (JIT)
Car Manufacturers work with the principle of JIT process, to support daily Plant production The MES (Manufacturing Execution System) is designed to work in independently from the central HUB Must be able to operate for 4 hours disconnected If data does not arrive on time the Plant stops. The data feed is a very sophisticated process which consist in several processes. Data moves across platforms and technologies both internally and externally out of the organization Files are transferred in/out of the company with vendors Data moves within the company via messaging systems 2016 Primeur ©

USE CASE – Manufacturing cont’d
Alert based monitoring allows users to be notified about conditions related to data flow Flow errors: transmission errors Cutoff time based (with warning): SLA on a completion time No send of file: planned file has not transferred Cutoff on duration: SLA on duration of the transfer Transmission completion: the flow complete correctly 2016 Primeur ©

HOW TO IDENTIFY GOVERNANCE NEEDS
Every company could realize benefits from increased data governance How do you provide visibility of your data flows in an agile, efficient and cost-effective way to business users for: SLA Compliance Business Continuity Capacity management How could you increase visibility to flows being processed in the cloud? Cloud-based ERPs Trading Partners 2016 Primeur ©
15
HOW TO IDENTIFY GOVERNANCE NEEDS
Every company could realize benefits from increased data governance Would stronger KPI compliance improve your relationship with business partners? SLA Turn-around times (both directions) How are you managing data flow from IoT and BYOD? Time-sensitive data needed for downstream processes 2016 Primeur ©

CAPABILITIES TO SEEK OUT
Solution allows modeling of flows for complete understanding of data movement landscape Discovery of flows to facilitate modeling Real-time notifications of unexpected results Actionable events to manage unexpected results Reporting to monitor / manage capacity planning Scalable to monitor thousands of simultaneous transactions Co-Exists with other MFT/Integration solutions 2016 Primeur ©
