2 Lifestyle diseases Diseases caused partly by unhealthy behaviors and partly by other factors. Ex. Diabetes, some types of heart disease and some types of cancer

3 RISK FACTORS Anything that increases the likelihood of injury, disease or other health problems Controllable Uncontrollable (age, race, gender, heredity)

Motor vehicle accidents Homicide Suicide Other accidents

5 Six Health risk behaviors
Sedentary Lifestyle – inactive lifestyle Alcohol and other drug abuse Sexual Activity – STD’s, HIV AIDS, unplanned pregnancy Behaviors that cause injuries – not wearing seatbelt, taking risks Tobacco use – choice often takes place in high school (#1 preventable cause of death in all age groups) Poor diet

6 Six components of health
Physical Health – a balance of diet and exercise Emotional Health – expressing your emotions in a positive way. (learn to forgive and forget) Social Health – quality of your relationships Mental Health – ability to recognize reality and cope with the demands of daily life. (confidence and self-esteem) Phobias etc Spiritual Health – usually associated with religion. A strong belief or value. Environmental Health – surroundings
