The BIG Question In your community and experience, what are the factors influencing (+ or -) pregnancy/ postpartum health outcomes?
4
Determinants of Healthy Pregnancy/ Post-partum
Individual determinants (Behaviour) Diet, physical activity, substance use Environmental determinants Context for behaviour (barriers, facilitators) Social context (family, SES, rurality, culture) Health care/ services
5
Environment: Conceptual Framework (ANGELO -Swinburn, Egger & Raza, 1999)
Environment Type Physical Economic Socio-cultural Political Environment Size Settings Sectors
6
Analysis Grid for Environments Linked to Healthy Pregnancy/ Post-partum (ANGEL-HP)
DOMAIN Behaviours Social Context Health Care Physical Economic Political Sociocultural
7
Applying ANGEL-HP Framework
Stakeholder group Apply ANGEL-HP Develop list of factors and options Rate options Prioritize research Prioritize interventions Research projects Intervention projects
8
Small Group Exercise Break into 3 groups Think of your community
Behaviours (Food/ Diet/ Physical Activity/ Substances) Social context (Family/ Work/ Stress) Health care/ services Think of your community
9
Brainstorm: STEP 1a (20 Mins)
As a group, brainstorm potential actions to address your factor in your community(ies). Everyone record on own worksheet.
10
Scoring: STEP 1B (10 mins) Score individually on your Own Worksheet
Importance (what is the relevance and impact of this in our situation?) Changeability (how feasible is it to do this in the next 3 years?) 1 = not important at all 2 = a little important 3 = somewhat import 4 = very important 5 = extremely important 1 = very hard to do 2 = hard to do 3 = possible to do 4 = easy to do 5 = very easy to do Multiply I X C for total score (Max 25)
11
Group Score: Steps 1C & D (15 mins)
As a group add up the total score for each of the listed potential actions using the sheet “Scoring Sheet for Small Groups”. (Calculator) As a group prioritise the top 5 potential actions (from I x C score) Write top 5 potential actions on the flip chart paper for reporting back
12
Domain – Social Context
MERGE: STEP 2 List the top 2 potential actions (those with the highest points) in the table. YOU WILL REPORT BACK ON THESE Domain – Social Context Priority Local programs and activities Best/better/most promising practices
13
ACTION PLAN: STEP 3 Name for the program
Overall aim (or goal): what will be achieved - this is 1 sentence that explains the program which will be measured as the program’s outcome Objectives (are able to be measured as program impacts) SMART Strategies (How to do it) Action Steps – timelines, person responsible
