3 Editing a Table In ArcView, editing is not saved until you confirm

4 Table Editing Steps Choose the Start Editing from the Table menu
While you’re editing, the field name is NOT shown in italic. Confirm editing when finished with editing by choosing the Stop Editing from the Table menu in a Table.

5 Field Type Number String Boolean Date

6 Field Type - number The width includes the count of decimal places and negative sign. If the Decimal Places is set to 0, the field becomes an integer

7 Calculate Allows you to input values into the selected records if selected (all records otherwise) on the field you specified Good to input new values derived from the other fields (e.g. arithmetic operation + * / -, string requests right(), substitue(,), conversion requests)

8 Calculate Choose the Start Editing
Click on the name of the field you wish to calculate Click the Calculate button In the Field Calculator dialog box, enter the calculation expression using fields and requests

There are a variety of requests depending on the field type

10 Calculation Expression: Syntax
[Area_nm] = [Cnty_nm].Count Requests Count applies to [Cnty_nm] and return any number. Field dot Requests [Area_nm] = The number of characters in [Cnty_nm]

11 Calculation Expression: Operator Precedence
In the absence of parentheses, operations with higher precedence are performed first * 2 =/= 42 + (3 * 2) = 48 = (42 + 3) * 2 = 90
