Sons of Liberty A secret, political group of patriots led by Samuel Adams. Their aim was to protect the colonists from British abuses of power. Freedom Fighters?? Terrorists?? OR

Benjamin Franklin Proposed the Albany Plan of Union at the Albany Conference. The plan was to help the colonies defend themselves against the French. It was not approved. Franklin served on the committee that wrote the Declaration of Independence.

Crispus Attucks A Boston dock worker of Native American and African descent, Attucks was one of the five colonists killed in the Boston Massacre. He is considered a “martyr of the Revolution.” Attucks is featured prominently in this depiction of the Boston Massacre.

Samuel Adams Leader of the Sons of Liberty and one of the primary figures in establishing the Committees of Correspondence. John Adams was his cousin.

Abigail Adams Wife of John Adams, Abigail is famous for being a fierce patriot and an early supporter of women’s rights. In a letter to her husband she warns him to “not forget the ladies” when forming a new government. She was wise and a political genius.

Mercy Otis Warren Patriot Author Historian Brilliant political mind
Mercy Otis Warren was a famous writer, historian and playwright. She wrote poems, essays, plays and pamphlets detailing the rightness of the patriot cause and the corruption and wrong acts of the British. Other than Abigail Adams, no other woman rivaled her wit, intelligence or impact on the Patriot cause. After the war she wrote an extensive history of the American Revolution which is still regarded as one of the most important ever produced. Patriot Author Historian Brilliant political mind

Paul Revere A Boston silversmith, Revere was a member of the Sons of Liberty and was one of the ringleaders of the Boston Tea Party. Revere is probably most famous for his “midnight ride” to warn colonists of approaching British Soldiers before the battles of Lexington and Concord. One of Revere’s engravings famously depicts the Boston Massacre from a colonial point of view.

Thomas Paine Author of the pamphlet, Common Sense, he helped convince colonists that the only logical course of action would be to separate from Great Britain.

Patrick Henry Patrick Henry was a fierce defender of individual rights. In Virginia, he was the leader of protests against the Stamp Act and was strongly in favor of independence. He is most famous for his “Give me liberty, or give me death!” speech.

Thomas Jefferson A statesman, farmer, inventor, musician, founder of a university, and more, Thomas Jefferson was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence.

George III George III was the King of England when the colonies broke from Britain and declared their independence. He is referred to as a tyrant in the Declaration of Independence.
