Tamoxifen Breast cancer. Systemic Antiestrogen, reduces or suppresses mucus. Menstrual disturbances Clomiphene Infertility Oral Contraceptives Contraception Local & systemic Produce sticky, yellow or white opaque mucus. (Progesterone effect) Progesterones : norethisterone, Depo provera, Implanon, Mirena IUCD Ovulatory dysfunction Local & pituitary Produce sticky, yellow or white opaque mucus. Estrogens Produces mucus with fertile signs

Cough and Flu Drugs DRUG USUALLY PRESCRIBED FOR SITE OF EFFECT
TYPE OF EFFECT Ampicillin Infections Local Increase or thin mucus. Acetylcystine (Flumucil) Asthma, phlegm If sufficiently absorbed could increase or thin mucus Guanifensin (Robitussin) Cough syrup Increase or thin mucus Antihistamines Coughs, Colds Decrease amount of mucus, thickening or dryness.

Atropine, Lomotil, Imodium Antispasmodic, stomach pain, diarrhea Local Decrease amount of mucus, thickening or dryness. Propantheline, Buscopan Antispasmodic Cimetidine (Tagamet) Famotidine, Ranitidine (Zantac) Stomach ulcers, heartburn or reflux Local & systemic Menstrual disturbances eg non-ovulation Inhibits histamine, also pituitary gonadatropins (FSH/LH)

Nervous System Drugs Antidepressants/ Anti-psychotics :
USUALLY PRESCRIBED FOR SITE OF EFFECT TYPE OF EFFECT Antidepressants/ Anti-psychotics : Mellaril, Risperdal, Valium, Prozac Depression Local & systemic Menstrual disturbances eg non-ovulation Urecholine (Bethanechol) Cholinergic agent - urinary retention Local and systemic Theoretically could thin secretions.

Used for treatment of high prolactin (hyperprolactinemia) Prolactin is a milk hormone High prolactin inhibits ovulation / fertility Bromocriptine restores ovulation
