1 High School Attendance
Carroll County Advisement Program

2 activator How are credits earned in high school?
How does your attendance impact whether or not you receive your credits?

3 As Freshmen, There are a few things you need to understand about attendance that are different from anything you experienced in middle school

4 The school year Two semesters First semester= 1st and 2nd nine weeks
Start of the school year to Christmas Second semester= 3rd and 4th nine weeks January to the end of the school year

5 credits Credits are earned based on semester averages
1st nine weeks average nd nine weeks average Total /2 = Semester Average For Example: st nine weeks nd nine weeks / 2 = 88 semester average Semester averages must be 70 or higher to receive credit for that class for that semester

6 Credits Each semester course is worth ½ credit
You have the opportunity to earn 3.5 credits per semester 7 total for the year

7 But how does attendance impact credits????
In addition to earning a 70 or higher for the semester to receive credit, you must also attend the class for a specified number of hours If you miss more than 7 days from a class, you are at risk of not earning your semester credit for that class. These 7 days include excused AND unexcused absences!! Your credit can be denied even if you have a passing semester average in the course.

8 Is there anything I can do if I miss more than 7?
At the end of each semester, students missing more than 7 days in a course are allowed to complete appeal form. Appeal forms allow you to explain and document why you missed more than your limit A committee at your school will review your appeal to determine if you will be awarded credits for the course(s) or not.

9 Is there a limit on the number of courses that I can receive “no credit” for due to attendance?
NO! Your credit can be denied in ALL of the courses that you miss more than 7 days per semester!!!! Just as if you had failed, you will reenroll in any required course for which you were denied credit.

10 What’s the simple solution?
DON’T MISS SCHOOL!!
