Human migration Migration is an important part of the study of geography Since the beginning of history, people have been on the move – as people move they both shape and are shaped by their environments. (Which Essential Element of Geography could this relate to?) Look at the map on p. FL52 of your textbook – what could be some reasons for the migration to Latin America?

Resources! Natural Resources: materials or substances that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain. (Minerals, fertile soil, etc.) Renewable Resources: can be used repeatedly because it is replaced naturally (oxygen, fresh water, sunshine etc.) Non-Renewable Resources: any natural resource from the Earth that exists in limited supply and cannot be replaced if it is used up. (Oil, coal, etc.) What effect might resources have on human migration?
5
Timelines! A timeline shows the order in which events happened.
Steps to reading a timeline: 1. Read the title of the timeline 2. Determine the time span: in ancient history it is sometimes divided into two parts: B.C.: Left side of timeline, “Before Christ” or “Before Common Era” – refer to the years before the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. (numbers get larger as you go back in time) A.D.: Right side of timeline, “Anno Domini” or “the year of our Lord” – refer to time after the birth of Jesus of Nazareth 3. Determine the intervals of time: How many years occur between each vertical line? 4. Study the events on the timeline
