Unsound Reasons 1. Marriage is in trouble. Maybe this will solve our problems. 2. A baby is someone who will love me and belong to me. 3. I feel like a nobody. Being a parent will make me somebody.

More Unsound Reasons 4. I want someone to take care of me when I am old. 5. Our parents want grandchildren.

Sound Reasons 1. Having children will add depth to our relationship which is already strong. 2. I want to give a baby my love and care. 3. I feel good about myself. I believe that parenthood will be a meaningful and rewarding experience.

Sound Reasons 4. I want to experience the special bond between parent and child that lasts for a lifetime. 5. I love children and I am ready for the sacrifice and work it takes to be an effective parent.

Becoming a Parent Requires:
1. FINANCIAL PREPAREDNESS Don’t just live your life in a survival mode. Prepare yourselves so you can enjoy life with your child.

EMOTIONAL PREPAREDNESS You need to be able to put a child’s needs in front of your own.

SOCIAL PREPAREDNESS You are a family now! Friends and social events need to take a back seat.

PHYSICAL PREPAREDNESS Know how to take good care of your health as well as the health needs of your child.
