Aerial Lifts Safety
Purpose:
Lifts are a better way to reach overhead areas and are safer than ladders. However, there are safety precautions that must be followed.
Aerial Lifts are to be used by trained and authorized operators only.
Potential Hazards & Responsibilities:
Operator: Fall hazards, Tip over, Dropping items, Over head hazards, electrical hazards, Limited work area and reach capabilities.
Responsibilities:
Read and understand all caution and danger warnings and operating manual.
Perform inspection prior to use.
Have all worn or damaged parts replaced.
Fasten entry gate/chain/bar.
Use lifts only on hard level surfaces.
Never position the lift over or work over an employee.
When possible, barricade a hazard zone to keep any one from getting underneath the area or objects being work on.
Employee: Over head hazards and Falling items.
Do not walk, work, or stand under aerial lifts.
Do not enter a barricaded area where aerial lifts are being operated, without authorization.
Stay alert to any operations where aerial
Aerial Lifts (Cherry picker, lift baskets, scissor lifts, boom lifts, etc.)
Fall protection is required due to potential for being bounced out of lift or from climbing out of the basket, railing, or platform.
Addition HAZARDS
Do not overload
Do not use without railings and entry gate in place
Do not use if work platform is not working or parts are damaged
Do not use near moving vehicles
Do not stand or sit on guardrails
Do not override safety devices
Do not use ladder or other device to increase size or working height
Do not use with improperly inflated or damaged tires.
Do not tie off Fall Protection to hand rails, use an appropriate anchor tie off point either on or outside the lift.
