Local vs Global Award Local Awards
Honorees are selected by the local SO Program Program must be a current or past 3-year HC grantee Honoree should be chosen by staff, athlete leaders, Healthy Athlete Clinical Directors, etc. Up to 3 individuals/organizations may be chosen Honorees must be contributing to Healthy Communities Awards must be presented by 31 July 2018

Local vs Global Award Global Award
Programs nominate 1 honoree for the global award Nominations due to SOI by 1 August 2018 Up to 7 Global honorees are chosen (1 per region) Global honorees are selected by SOI Chosen by staff, Athlete Leaders, Golisano Foundation staff, Global Clinical Advisors, etc. Short films for each of the 7 honorees are made Honorees are Honored Guests at World Games Awards are presented at the 2019 World Games

1 January 2018 – 31 July 2018 – Programs present local awards 1 August 2018 – Global award nominations are due to SOI 15 September Global honorees are announced (internally) October 2018 – March 2019 – Honored Guest Management & video filming March Global awards at World Games

What You Need To Do Select up to 3 Honorees that are:
Expanding the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes® program Increasing local athletes’ ability to access quality follow- up health care and/or Increasing athletes’ access to and participation in year-round wellness/ fitness programs Increasing the financial sustainability of Special Olympics health work Advancing the health rights of Special Olympic athletes and people with ID

What You Need To Do For the Local Award
Select up to 3 individuals/organizations to give the award to Use the criteria on the previous slide Include staff, HA Clinical Directors, & Athletes Order award plaques to present to your honorees the names of your honoree(s) and the date of your event to

Select or organize a large, public event to present your award(s) – If you are receiving a 3-year HC grant in , there is $2,000 extra for this Present the award(s) before 31 July 2018 Make sure there is media coverage for your event Sent pictures of your event & any media coverage to

What You Need To Do For the Global Award
Select one of your honorees to nominate for the global award By 1 August 2018, send SOI: A completed nomination form A bio and headshot for your nominee OR a logo and short write up on the organization nominated Confirmation the nominee has received a local award Please note that nominees cannot be paid staff of Special Olympics

If Your Honoree is Selected for a Global Award

What You Need To Do Your Regional Director will let you know by 15 September 2018 Your Honoree will become an Honored Guest for the 2019 World Games All travel expenses to come to Abu Dhabi will be paid for by SOI We will need your assistance with honored guest management A film crew will come meet with your honoree and make a short film about their work
