Purpose of implementation of GAP
Food safety Sustainability Worker safety Productivity (Unclear by now, JGAP covers after JGAP 2015, definitely-located) Human rights and Ethics (JGAP cover after JGAP2015) Animal welfare(JGAP does not cover this aspect) At the end, getting trust from buyer-side, through some auditing activities.

Mechanism to have good productivity and benefits from GAP
Benefits of the implementation of GAP for farming businesses are obtained in sequence. Introduction of GAP improves employees' awareness first. Then, improvements in employees' awareness boosts systematic production, which leads to improved quality, and eventually improved sales. 2012 Survey conducted by National Agriculture and Food Research Organization 164 JGAP certified farms (individual certification / Response rate: 54.2%) Arrows denote positive influences between the respective benefits. How do you makes employees to participate into the process of JGAP implementation Structure of farm management required by JGAP Step 1 : Governance in farm / clarification of responsibility, the division of the roles / the directions and orders Step 2 : Risk analysis and Assess production environment Site / water / soil / facility / machinery and so on Step 3 : Rule making and clarify the process and procedure Step 4 : keep everyone informed about rule and procedure, and educate employee to follow them Step 5 : Record recording, checking, and assessment of farming processes and employee following rules

Case study Yamanami farm, rice farm in Niigata, Japan
Yamanami farm is founded in 1992, and certified JGAP in 2009.The total farmed area has expanded to 97ha in full-time employees, and 600 temporary employees. For example, a reduction in the dead stock of pesticides was achieved by implementing the control of pesticides (control of use, storage, and stock of pesticides), which is one of the control points of JGAP.

Both of farm manager and employee involve rule-making process through the process of JGAP implementation. Both farm manager and Employee understand the groundwork of JGAP requirement, and involve rule-making process together Clarify roles and responsibilities of manager and employees Establish the annual plan and weekly plan, and share it with all employees

Employee awareness in Yamanami farm through JGAP?
Before the implementation of GAP and the management system, the farm manager made all plans and gave all directions (that is, top-down governance). Accordingly, the employees had a strong "consciousness of being employed" and they strongly tended to seek detailed directions from the farm manager and do only those manager directed. However, after the implementation of JGAP by co-work of manager and employee together, farm achieve to workers' sense of responsibility and the autonomy of individual employees, and furthermore, raised common understanding of the circumstances of the whole farm.
