Chorus Formation As spring rains , temperature, and daylight hours increase males become active and congregate at breeding sites Initial males begin calling and attract more males As the chorus increases females are attracted to the site

Advertisement Calls Male advertisement calls are used to attract females for mating (and maintain spacing from other males) Larger males become the ‘chorus masters’

Short Range Calls As females approach their chosen mate both male and female may make some ‘Courtship calls’ to invite ‘amplexus’

Other Calls ‘Release calls’ by females or mounted males
‘Distress calls’ when frightened or captured by a predator
