[LISA / ROBERT] Thank you for joining us for the last of the webinars as we move forward toward full statewide implementation of the new educator evaluation system. We are excited that you hav. Please note that the webinar is being recorded and will be uploaded to the WV Department of Education website. The PPT will also be uploaded. Additionally, there will be a time provided for questions at the end of the webinar. 4 Adding up the pieces… A break down of the Elements. Standard Rating
The preponderance of evidence points to an overall rating of accomplished Accomplished Emerging Accomplished Standard 2 Element 2.1 Element 2.2 Element 2.3 Accomplished Emerging The intent of providing standard ratings at both the standard and element level is to help one identify areas of best practice and need! First, let’s focus on the ratings themselves. Refer to Standard 1, Elements 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3. Here we can see that I have been scored as: Emerging on 1.1 Accomplished on 1.2 Accomplished on 1.3 Based on the preponderance of evidence, I am rated as Accomplished overall for Standard 1. In practice, this information would be best used by examining first my overall standard rating, and then my individual Element rating. As a result, I can go look at the rubric and reflect on my practice. Look at Standard 2. My overall rating is Emerging. This stems from the majority of my ratings being emerging. Note: The intent of providing standard ratings at both the standard and Element level is to help one identify areas of best practice and areas of improvement. So you can see, the elements round up. Note, each box in this slide represents a rating. First, let’s consider the Professional Teaching Standards. (CLICK) We begin with the critical standard elements. We cluster these CSEs by standard and obtain a rating for each individual CSE. (CLICK) Now, we can see that these clustered CSEs lead us to an overall Standard rating for Standards 1-5. That takes care of the teaching standards. Second, let’s consider the Standard of Student Learning (CLICK) Here, we begin with the student learning goals. Each of which receives a rating. We then look at the Math and R/LA Schoolwide Standardized Growth scores. These also get a rating. (CLICK) These 2 areas (growth and goals) are combined to obtain an overall rating for Standard 6 (Student Learning) Third, let’s consider the Standard of Professionalism, Standard 7. (CLICK) We understand the importance of this standard. Because of its necessary nature, does not factor into the overall rating However, it is linked to the overall rating and should not be considered separate from the overall evaluation. Finally, Standards 1-6 lead to an Overall Rating representative of each individual rating that has been entered (CLICK). Here we can see how each of the ratings for Standards 1-6 lead to an overall standard rating. We can also how Standard 7 (Professionalism) is linked by a dashed line, not an arrow. This indicates the related nature of Professionalism to the overall evaluation. Standard 7

10 How to have a good conference….it is a process, not an event.
-keep it positive/constructive, it is not a "gotcha" meeting -communication goes both ways, don't monopolize the conversation -develop trust, be a good listener -be detailed with your recommendations/comments

Make sure conversation is focused, specific, and constructive The evaluator has the final say

13 Final Rating of Standards
This is a screen shot of the Final Rating of Standards. Notice that for each element there is a rating to be recorded as well as a blue link to the rubric for that element. A comment box exists for the standard for the evaluator to use should they feel it necessary. The comment box is large enough to hold 5000 characters.

Here is the example of the rubric for Standard 6 Student Learning.

15 Determining Progress…
Determining Progress for each of the student learning goals is shown on this screenshot. Notice like the other standards, that the evaluator will rate each student learning goal. The blue rubric link is present on the screen for use by the evaluator as well as a comment box to make comments on Standard 6.

17 Standard 7 Professional Conduct
This is a screenshot of Standard 7 Professional Conduct. Remember that this standard has different ratings from the other 6 standards. You can be rated as meets standard, below standard, or unsatisfactory for this standard only. Again, the rubrics are available for the evaluator to use as well as a comment box for Standard 7. Also on this screenshot you will notice that the Evaluator has a comment box to input commendations and recommendations. As well, the educator has a comment box to attach an addendum as necessary. The final set of boxes shows the summative performance rating that is inclusive of all 7 standards.
