3. Background
For the last 50 years, pipeline contractors have been using various types of vehicles to support pipe-laying operations (welding, stringing, field joint coating, etc.…)

4. More recently, contractors started modifying existing bulldozers to fit various applications, but these machines were not designed for the specifics of pipe-laying operations, and their adaptation were costly and not perfectly fit for purpose.
Contractors were looking for a machine that would be fit for multi-purpose use on pipeline construction: welding tractor; pipe-holding tractor; twin arc; sand blasting; field joint coating; pre-heating; general transportation; pipe carrier; flat trailer; etc.

5. The Muletrax line
For this reason, in we started developing a line of purpose-built, multi-purpose tractors, which we finally launched in The Muletrax line from Laurini now includes four different sizes machines and has been used by many pipeline contractors on projects around the world.
The concept was so successful and innovative that it won the 2007 IPLOCA Innovation Award.

However, one problem remained unsolved, which is the transportability of this vehicle.
With more and more contractors working in remote areas, far away from their home base, the cost of transporting their machines to the project area has become a very important factor.
This problem has become the opportunity for us, to develop a machine which could be easily shipped inside a standard ISO container.
We are now proud to present the Muletrax 2300C for Transportation in a 40 foot container.
Fitting inside a container can save precious time on shipping, and up to 70% on maritime freight costs.

The cab can be lowered hydraulically to 2258mm to fit in the container. Machine operation is maintained while the cab is in the transport position.
Thanks to a patented hydraulic mechanism, the crane can be lowered onto the flat bed, and blocked in this position

As an example, shipment cost for a standard Muletrax from Genova (Italy) to Brisbane (Australia) is about € 8,200… without considering the welding tent and other accessories,
The transportation of the whole “package” (tractor, welding units, welding tent, accessories) in a 40 foot container, will cost € 2,700.
More than 70% less, each way !

The cab is fitted with a ladder to allow comfortable access for the operator, and features standard air conditioning. All machine movements are controlled by a single joystick.

The Muletrax is equipped with a 20 t*m crane and a removable platform. The twist lock fasteners allow an easy and fast platform removal. Once disassembled from the machine mainframe, the removable platform with all welding units can also be positioned inside the container.

All the under-side of the Muletrax is equipped with removable carters that protect the machine and the air bottles against damage.
The Muletrax can be equipped with standard steel undercarriage, or rubber tracks which are preferred in many applications.

The Muletrax can be equipped with an optional bottle rack (up to 8 gas bottles). The rack is hydraulically activated to simplify loading of the bottles at ground level.

14. Welding units and auxilliary equipment such as the welding tent will also fit inside the same 40 foot container, in front of the vehicle, for easy loading/unloading. All tools and attachments related to one tractor can be stored in the same container.

Cab and crane can be hydraulically lowered to fit the machine into a 40 foot container.
Freight costs can be reduced up to 70% (seventy percent less than a standard size vehicle).
Platform for use as a welding tractor can be easily removed by twist-locks, and loaded inside the container.
Steel or rubber undercarriage options
Optional gas bottle rack is hydraulically lowered to ground level.
Auxilliary equipment and welding tent will also fit inside the same 40 foot container.
