Welcome Back to School!!
Welcome back to school and 5th grade!!! We are so excited to have your son/daughter at Sawgrass Bay Elementary and in our academy. This year they will learn so much and have an incredible 5th grade experience.
-School Supplies: In 5th grade we really focus on organization and responsibility. You may have noticed that some of the supplies you purchased were sent back home. We do this for two reasons. First, we want students to have supplies at home to complete their work/projects. Second, student are expected to restock their personal supplies each day and as needed throughout the school year. Being prepared for class is an excellent way students can show their leadership, responsibility, and being proactive.
-Beginning of Year Forms: All students should have brought home a maroon folder with important beginning of the year forms. Please sign and return these forms as soon as possible. Thank you! 
-Enrichment Schedule: Tuesday’s and Friday’s your student will have Physical Education (PE). The remaining days, except Wednesday, we will have either Music, Technology, Media, or Art.
Please make sure your student remembers to wear sneakers on their PE days.
Scholastic Book Order
Encouraging reading is one of the most important things we can do to help our children succeed. Great books can be ordered through books for our classrooms. If Scholastic. Simply fill out the order form sent home last week and send in the money by August 31st. Orders typically take 2-3 weeks to arrive.

Unpacking standard L1.1 conventions and grammar usage when writing or speaking.
We will also begin the novel Wonder and begin RL1.3 comparing and contrasting two or more characters, settings, or events and drawing on specific details in the text.
8/25 Grammar Quiz on conjunctions, prepositions, and interjections
-Students will begin the use of maps, globes, photographs, pictures, and tables to locate key geographic features, locations, and landmarks.
