Customer Challenges Explosion of data sources
Functional silos of information Lack real-time picture of business health One key challenge customers face today is that there is a huge variety of data used to manage physical resources, and that data is growing every day. Sensor data for individual pieces of equipment alone is large and growing source of key information. There is utilities usage and cost data down to the individual meter level. Add to that information about leases, project plans, SLAs, work orders, construction cost estimates, CAD drawings, BIM data … it’s a huge amount of data and only going to grow as time goes on. (Functional silos of information) And even though 85% of users surveyed are involved in multiple real estate management functions, they often have no good way to bring data together from different functional systems. This leads to a lot of time exporting and massaging data – usually in Excel – often up to 4 hours per week for a single weekly report. (Lack real-time picture of business health) This all means that it is difficult and time-consuming to bring data together to get view into information needed for business insights. For a retailer this might mean understanding what build outs are at risk that could impact planned revenues? For a service provide, it might mean tracking compliance with service level agreements. And even when this data is pulled together, it’s quickly out of date and can’t always be relied on.

These sources include not only data from Accruent products but from other third-party products and enterprise data sources. Near real-time data Some of our products provided real-time data for reporting, while other had periodic job – for example, nightly – to make data available for reporting While real-time data isn’t needed in most instances, customers valued closer to real-time updates for certain content, such as work order response time. Easy to customize reports & dashboards or create on the fly Customers noted that no matter how many standard reports and dashboards were available, they would always want to customize them to meet their needs. Ad hoc reporting was not available in some of our products.

The number was growing as Accruent continued to acquire new products – at the rate of at least 2 per year. This required people with different skill sets to maintain different databases, use different replication technologies, and back and front end development, as well as multiple vendor contracts. Stale data Some products only refreshed reporting data once a day. Risk of Production impact Since some products pulled data directly from Production OLTP databases when generating reports and dashboards, all of client Production could be impacted by large scale jobs or errors. Complexity of ETLs There were a massive amount of hand-written ETL transformations which were not efficient to manage or support. Need for ad hoc reporting Some solutions did not offer ad-hoc reporting capabilities that were critical to customers.

In addition, users can upload ad hoc data set. Near real-time data All reporting is based on near real-time data delivered from a central lake into product data warehouses Cloud-based / Built on best-in-class, third-party solutions The entire solution is cloud-based, with a data lake and data warehouse in Oracle Cloud, as well as IBM Cognos, the front-end BI tool.

All data points required for reporting, including data points from other products are available in product specific DW / DM.

Ad-hoc reporting a new capability for some products Near-real time data for dashboards & reports Simplified ETL development Faster & easier deployment and maintenance With Oracle GoldenGate CS we can deliver data for reporting near-real time. It is easy to configure and use. ODI CS simplified our ETL development. We don’t need to manually code transformation logic with PL/SQL. We can take advantage of reusable mappings for full and incremental processing. With ODI it is easy to implement parallel execution and exception handling. With Oracle Cloud (in general) we can provision infrastructure and services on demand. It allows us to scale infrastructure components based on usage. Using PaaS services greatly simplified deployment and maintenance tasks.
