What makes a Robust luminaire?
We light spaces to enhance human well-being. Lighting adverse area’s is no different. One of the core principals of enhancing human well being is to provide safety.
3
What makes a Robust luminaire?
In adverse areas providing safety means the use of robust luminaires that provide the right light at all times. These luminaires must be able to continuously operate despite extreme physical attack, whilst remaining maintenance free as long as possible.
4
What makes a Robust luminaire?
When it comes to a luminaires ability to resist physical attack the standard we like to use is IEC (2002). Given as an IK rating between 00 to 10, where 10 is the highest rating.
5
Testing to IK10 The hammer’s weight and the joules are specified (mass over distance) as is the radius of the striking area. Standard requires 5 strikes to the weakest point. IK10 TEST
6
Testing to IK10 Even though we always test at the fittings weakest point, 20 joules, or 2kg at 1m distance, is simply not enough to resist many physical attacks . For this reason we have tested far beyond the norm of what is considered ‘vandal resistant’. EXCEEDING THE IK10 TEST
7
What makes a Robust luminaire?
Built to last: Polyester Powder coat over Bonderite providing a corrosion resistant finish. Stainless safety screws (torx with centre pin) to prevent vandalism and unwanted access. Burns test diffusers in prison cell fittings. Our diffusers will resist extended periods of naked flame attack, preventing the risk of self-harm occurring.
8
What makes a Robust luminaire?
Maintenance Free: Choice of LED and fluorescent sources. We design our luminaires for optimum thermal performance and therefore optimal life of lamps and components. Removable gear trays with plug and play connectors are standard allowing easy access for maintenance and retrofitting new boards into older fittings.
