Why do I need to build relationships in my Zone?
Being a Lt. Governor can sometimes be tough. You have stepped out of your Club “comfort zone” and have now moved on to be the administrator of your Zone. As the Lt. Governor, it is necessary for you to promote the goals of your District and to help and encourage the clubs in your Zone to grow and continue to serve the kids and communities.

How will my building relationships in the Zone make a difference?
Club officers and members will trust me I will be able to meet the expectations of the Club officers Club officers and members will be confident in me Leadership skills will be enhanced It is vitally important that the Lt. Governor can connect and build a rapport with the Clubs (officers) in the Zone. The clubs need to know that they have a Zone leader who will support them and help them throughout the Optimist year.

How do I build relationships?
Show respect Be supportive Listen Answer questions Encourage participation Promote service Participate in club activities Be enthusiastic Give advice when asked Attend special events Building strong relationships can be difficult. Being able to listen and be supportive even if it does not agree with your own ideas can be challenging. Keep things in perspective. Remember that not all clubs function the way that your own club does.

Is there more to building? YES!
Be available Install Club officers Conduct Zone meetings Do the ACPC and follow up with it Build a new Club – lead the way Submit reports accurately and on time Communicate regularly – part of the time, but make a personal phone call now and then

The Zone grows and provides more service to the kids and communities
Does the Zone benefit? YES! The Zone becomes a team that works together for the benefit of the kids and communities The Zone grows and provides more service to the kids and communities A big key to the success of the Zone is in the positive relationships that have been formed between the Lt. Governor as the Zone Leader and the officers and members of the clubs.

Do I benefit? How? Learning and seeing the Zone picture – not just my Club An opportunity to lead more than my own Club Motivation to encourage others The ability to do something at the District level Growth as an individual

A final thought… “Success in life has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It’s what you do for others.” Danny Thomas Doing for others is what we do as Optimists. It is all about Bringing Out the Best in Kids!
