Geoscience CI Challenges
Generating, collecting, and federating heterogeneous data (including grid access) Data sharing (between disciplines) Data mining and knowledge discovery Visualization Data preservation and authentication Workflow orchestration and processing pipelines Standard tools and services “X in a box” (off the shelf, widely usable)
3
Recommendations Establish a technology forum for sharing and learning
Create partnership projects that integrate domain science and computer science for research and education Recognize that a balance is needed between an investment in innovation and the provision of reliable services involving long term support (“everything is an experiment”) Initially, focus on a few narrow efforts, as opposed to broad and shallow Recognize education as a first class partner
4
Other Issues How broad should CI be? (e.g., does it include metadata, etc?) Service, centralization, planning Security, access control Data discovery in DLs Workforce issues First CI solicitation possible in FY 05
