Photo: S. de la Barre December 6 and 7, 2017 Cultural Centres Forum, YFNCT Suzanne de la Barre and Joelle Hogan

2 Can/should First Nation Cultural Centres support reconciliation
Can/should First Nation Cultural Centres support reconciliation? Can/should Indigenous tourism support reconciliation?

3 Reconciliation must inspire Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples to transform Canadian society so that our children and grandchildren can live together in dignity, peace, and prosperity on these lands we now share. (TRC, 2015, p. 4)

4 “AIR”

5 Assess the photos on your table for where the Indigenous experience falls in the “AIR” framework? Is it A, I or R? Discuss why you think it belongs there?

6 Using AIR as a resource, go back over the photos and think of ways that you could increase host/visitor engagement.

7 What types of visitor-oriented experiences do you offer at your cultural centre presently?
Where do those currently offered experiences fit into the AIR model?

8 Keeping AIR in mind, how could your cultural centre offer different kinds of experiences than those you offer presently? What could the experiences look like?

9 What support will be required?

10 We have described for you a mountain, we have shown the path to the top, we call upon you to do the climbing. - Justice Murray Sinclair, Past Chairman TRC

11 Gunalchish, Masi Cho, Thank you!
