2 1. Eye protection equipment is required at all times while conducting experiments including set-up and clean-up. Goggles must be worn over personal eyeglasses. 2. Apron may be worn to protect clothing and your body. 3. Eating, drinking and chewing gum are forbidden in the laboratory. Wash your hands thoroughly after the experiment and before handling food. 4.Do not eat chemicals. Waft when smelling chemicals. 5. Loose clothing and long hair must be secured prior to running experiments. 6. No shorts or skirts are permitted.

3 NO horseplay will be tolerated. The chemistry laboratory is to be used for serious work. The following things are not allowed: Running, playing with water, practical jokes are never appropriate, shouting, throwing chemicals on each other, no daring another person to eat or do something with a chemical, and never sit on the lab bench.

4 1. Follow the experiment directions as instructed. Dont skip around the procedure steps unless directed by the teacher. 2. Report any accidental incorrect procedures immediately. 3. Be sure the teacher is present before starting the experiment. 4. Stop work immediately upon the command of the teacher. 5.Handle chemicals carefully. Check the label of all bottles before removing contents. 6. Handle toxic or combustible gases only under the direction of your teacher. Use the fume hood when such materials are present.

5 7. Never leave anything unattended while it is being heated or it is being reacted. Do not leave Bunsen burners unattended. 8. Use caution when handling hot glassware. 9.Report any accident, however minor, to the teacher. 10.Report any broken equipment to the teacher. Do not clean up broken glass.

6 Punishment for broken rules include: reduction in grade for lab assignment, issue of a failing or zero grade for lab assignment, referral to administration, or loss of lab privileges. Students may also be fined for the repair or replacement cost of equipment which is damaged or destroyed due to carelessness of horseplay.
