Every year at this time, America remembers the impact Martin Luther King had by holding a special memorial day for him

Remind of Ruby Bridge story. She was the only black child who was sent to a school with white children. The parents of the other children stopped their children going to school with her so she went to school all alone. Every day she had to have a guard walk her to school to protect her from all the people abusing and threatening her.

Martin wanted to be a minister in the church. He wanted to make the lives of black people better because some were treated very badly. He worked hard and learned about people who tried to change things in a peaceful way. He did not want to get angry and fight.

22. Martin’s work was so important that to honour him and remember him every year in America there is a special day called, ‘Martin Luther King Day’. Stevie Wonder wrote a special song about him called ‘Happy Birthday’.
