Unit 1 Chapter 1 1-4 Angle Measure
3
A ray is a part of a line. It has one endpoint and extends indefinitely in one direction.
Rays are named by stating the endpoint first and then any other point on the ray. If you choose a point on a line, that point determines exactly two rays called opposite rays.
4
An angle is formed by two noncollinear rays that have a common endpoint.
The rays are called sides of the angle. The common endpoint is the vertex. An angle divides a plane into three distinct parts. *Points Q, M, and N lie on the angle. *Points S and R lie on the interior of the angle. *Points P and O lie on the exterior of the angle.

A. Name all angles that have B as a vertex.
Angles and Their Parts A. Name all angles that have B as a vertex. Example 1

Angles and Their Parts C. Example 1
8
Angles are measured in units called degrees
Angles are measured in units called degrees. The degree results from dividing the distance around a circle into 360 parts.

Just as segments that have the same measure are congruent segments, angles that have the same measure are congruent angles. In the figure, since , then . Matching numbers of arcs on a figure also indicate congruent angles, so
14
A ray that divides an angle into two congruent angles is called an angle bisector. If is the angle bisector of , then the point W lies in the interior of and

INTERIOR DESIGN Wall stickers of standard shapes are often used to provide a stimulating environment for a young child’s room. A five-pointed star sticker is shown with vertices labeled. Find mGBH and mHCI if GBH HCI, mGBH = 2x + 5, and mHCI = 3x – 10. Example 3
