Undercurrent Stabalizer Technology:
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Ken Willson
2
What is it? Innovative Technique, developed by Dick Holmberg, Whitehall, Michigan Based on “Geological” Theory Series of “Speed Bumps” placed perpindicular to the beach. Has been used in over 100 locations primarily on the coasts of the Great Lakes.

Theory: Sedimentation is controlled by offshore/ onshore circulation cells. Natural trend of shorelines, up until recently, is a building out seaward. Beach ridges are evidence of this theory and can be dated using carbon dating.
5
Infrared Photo Depicting Beach Ridges
6
More Theory: Coastal erosion today is unnatural due to the dredging of deep channels and inlets. Man is steepening the shore profile, and causing more turbulant waters nearshore. This turbulance hinders the natural process of sand deposition.
7
GOOD Cost effective Environmentaly friendly, promote biological growth
One time operation
8
BAD Theory is somewhat faulty.
Has not really been tested on ocean coasts Technically they are hard structure
9
UGLY Process is highly political Litigation Bid-Rigging
