Neolithic Revolution Began around 10,000 years ago. May have started with the realization that discarded seeds at a former hunter-gather campsite had turned into edible plants that the group was accustomed to eating. This discovery does not seem like much to us now, but for early peoples travelling far and wide in search of food, this knowledge changed everything. Eventually, groups settled in one place where they could depend on a stable supply of food. Humans now became food producers instead of food gatherers.

Farming and Society With groups settling in one place society began to develop. Farming techniques were learned, perfected and passed on to others. Specialized tools were needed, so some people became tool makers. Specialization and diversification of labour began. People had more time to devote to other areas of life.

Farming and Society (continued)
Animals became domesticated and contributed to food supplies. Practices, routines, cycles became a part of the culture of the group. With secure and steady supplies of food, populations grew. People settled in specific areas, offering each other cooperation and protection. Villages grew bigger eventually leading to larger more complex areas of habitation.
