1 Welcome to First Grade Orientation!
Blanton Elementary

2 Business First… Please or call by 1:00, or send a written note about change in transportation for your child. Students will not be called out of class after 2:20. If you choose not to drop off your child in the line then please pull through to the parking spots, and walk your child across the cross walk. To minimize classroom interruptions only lunchboxes will be delivered to the classroom by the office.

3 More business Do not use cell phones while driving on school property. You will receive a ticket. Walkers will not be dismissed to cars in the parking lot. For your child’s safety we advise that you do designate a location to meet your walkers or bikers. Do not park in Madison or Juniper to pick up your child. Parents may not drop off students at the back of the building. By law buses and cars must be separated. Parents need to stay in their car during parent pick up. (Car tag procedures) All medications including over the counter need to be delivered by a parent to the nurse.

4 Homework Read every night for 15 minutes (document on reading log)
Practice reading and writing sight words Practice spelling words (we will start spelling soon)

6 Folders Daily STRIPE Folders will go home every day
Blanton Folder will go home every Tuesday with information about school events. *Please sign and return the Blanton folder on Wednesday. 

7 Reading Levels Beginning first grade readers should be fluently reading and comprehending at level D. Reading levels will be tested and recorded every report card. By the end of the year first graders should be fluently reading and comprehending at a level J. Guided reading books will be coming home in the 2nd 6 weeks.

8 Lunch Lunch is from 11:00-11:30 Our first grade ice cream day is Wednesday Please sign up for alerts so you will be notified if your child’s account is running low Menus will no longer be sent home monthly.

9 Dress Code Students are expected to adhere to the dress code policies as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct Handbook. No flip flops or spaghetti straps, the straps must be the width of two fingers, skirts and shorts must be fingertip length. Please make sure your child has tennis shoes for P.E.

10 Classroom Parties Birthdays
Students can bring in treats (such as cupcakes, cookies or pre-cut cookie cake) to celebrate their birthday. We are required by FMNV law to serve treats the last 30 minutes of the day. All treats must be store bought and nut free. Class Parties Winter party – December 19 Valentines party – February TBA End of year party – June 4-Early Release Day Please make sure you have filled out a background check if you would like to volunteer for school parties or etc. (due to limited space older siblings will not be allowed to attend parties. Smaller siblings are welcomed but will not be able to participate. )

11 Communication First Grade Newsletters will be on our website.
Our webpage at Blanton provides great information about our learning objectives, school events, and fun online learning opportunities……. Our conference time is 12:50-1:40 everyday.

12 Wish list In order to prevent illness/ allergic reactions we disinfect regularly. We appreciate donations of antibacterial wipes and paper towels. THANK YOU!! 
