3 5th Grade Schedule 8:25-8:40 – Homeroom 8:40-10:05 – Block 1
11:45-12:10- Lunch 12:10-1:35 – Block 3 1:35-1:55- Recess 1:55-2:40 –Special Area (Art, Music, PE, Media, Technology, GEMS) 2:40-2:50 – Prepare for dismissal 2:50-3:15 - Dismissal

4 Attendance Perfect attendance is 180 days without any absences, early dismissals, or tardies. If your student is absent, a note is required when they return to school (even if you have spoken with the office). If the student is going to be out of school for more than 2 days, please call to request their work so they don’t get too far behind. Excused absences are listed in the Leon County Schools handbook.

7 ELA Expectations ELA is English Language Arts consists of reading, spelling, vocabulary work, writing, and speaking learning experiences. Reading Learning Expectations: Your child will have reading everyday.  It is important that your child listens, learns, completes work and participates in all classroom learning activities/experiences.   Writing Learning Expectations: Each student is expected to continue to grow as a writer in 5th grade.  Your child will fine tune their writing skills and strategies this school year.  Listening, writing and participating in the learning is important in being successful in 5th grade ELA class.

8 ELA Expectations Vocabulary and Spelling Words Learning Expectations: Your child will receive vocabulary/spelling words for every reading unit we cover.   Your child is expected to learn the spelling of the words and what they mean.  Your child is expected to receive an 75% or higher on each vocabulary/spelling test given. Unit Assessment Achievement Expectations:  Unit Assessments will be given every 7 to 8 days.  Your child is expected to achieve a 75% or higher.  This can be accomplished by reading carefully, underlining key words, thinking, eliminating answers that are wrong and locating evidence in the reading passages that supports his/her response to questions.

9 Science Expectation Homework Expectations: Students will receive vocabulary words for every Science Unit covered.  They are to keep them in the binder or Interactive Notebook. Students are expected to study vocabulary/ lesson content for at least 10 min a night. Homework is not always written but it is given daily. Interactive Notebooks: Notebooks are required to be in class and maintained daily. It is a part of their daily grade. Lab Expectations: Student safety is our number priority and students are expected to maintain appropriate behavior during labs. Assessment Achievement Expectations:  Students are expected to achieve 75% or higher on both Lesson and Unit Assessments.

11 Test Administration Information ELA Reading & Mathematics
ELA Reading & Mathematics (Grades 3-5) ELA Reading and Mathematics assessments contain items. FSA ELA & Mathematics sessions are administered over 2 days. Test session lengths are as follows: ELA Reading – Two 80-minute sessions Mathematics – Two 80-minute sessions Calculators are NOT permitted for Grades 3-5 Mathematics. Reference sheets are available and samples can be found on the FSA Portal.

Florida’s K-12 assessment system measures students’ achievement of Florida’s education standards, which were developed and implemented to ensure that all students graduate from high school ready for success in college, career, and life. Assessment supports instruction and student learning, and test results help Florida’s educational leadership and stakeholders determine whether the goals of the education system are being met

13 Science FCAT The Statewide Science Assessment is administered as a paper-best test (PBT). Test materials for paper-based accommodations (large print, braille, one-item-per-page) are available for students whose IEPs or 504 plans indicate these accommodations. The Statewide Science Assessment is administered in two 80-minute sessions with a stretch break in the middle of each session. Grade 5 Science is administered over two days. Sample questions and answer key books for students taking the Statewide Science Assessment are available for student use on the FLDOE Statewide Science Assessment page.

Volunteering All volunteers must turn in a Leon county volunteer form to be cleared to work with students, work on campus or chaperone on a field trip. Do this as soon as possible! No volunteers should report to classrooms unless previously setup with their teacher. Chaperones – Will be notified as opportunities arise. Work at home volunteers - See your student’s classroom teachers for opportunities to help out in the classroom from home. Work at school – There is a volunteer portable located in the front of the school. Volunteers may check with classroom teachers for opportunities to help out. Special events – Homeroom parents may contact you to volunteer for in class activities or special events.
