energy Did you know that heat is a form of energy.
It’s called thermal energy. Thermal energy is the energy of an object because of the movement of its molecules. Heat can be transferred from one object to another object if they are touching (conduction) or from heat waves (convection.) The most important energy on earth comes from the sun. Some people use thermal energy to cook stuff, to warm themselves and for electricity.

How does heat move between objects through thermal energy?
Thermal energy moves from one object to another through heat energy. Heat energy moves through convection and conduction. As the temperature of matter increases, the movement of the atoms and molecules also increase.

Why does ice melt in water?
Ice melts in water because of the temperature around it. If you add the same size of ice cubes to same size of water but one of the glasses is filled with hot water, the ice in the hot water will melt faster because the heat.

How Thermometers work The thermometer works by measuring the temperature of the air or liquid around it. Then the liquid in the thermometer expands if it is hot and squeezes together if its cold.

Conduction, Convection and Radiation
Conduction means the heat directly touchers the object. For example; when you cook pancakes you use conduction. Convection means the heat doesn’t touch the object. For example; when you boil vegetables you use convection. Radiation means the heat is around the object. For example; a microwave is radiation.

Heat used by engineers Did you know that heat and temperature is something engineers need to think about when designing stuff. When designing stuff engineers have to think about things expanding.
