Examine the next few pictures of eating establishments carefully What dominant impression is conveyed by each image? What details contribute to this dominant impression?

Group activity: dominant impression
As a group select one of the previous Discuss and decide upon one dominant impression you want to convey for that image Provide a detailed description of the selected restaurant using concrete words and active/descriptive verbs that conveys your selected dominant impression. You should engage all five senses if possible

Descriptive verbs – verbs that convey information about how an action was performed Regular verb ex: The triumphant athlete walked home after the game Descriptive verb example: The triumphant athlete paraded home after the game

In your unit 1 groups For questions 1-5, select a descriptive verb to replace “walk” The tired factory worker _______ home after a long day. Group Activity: Contrasting Descriptions
Select a setting that everyone in the group is familiar with. Suggestions include: the beach, a mall, a particular place or building at FIU, a park, etc. Be specific here. Produce a 1 paragraph description of the setting that extensively uses abstract words and is very vague Then, produce a 1 paragraph description that heavily uses concrete words and conveys an appropriate dominant impression for the scene The whole group should work on both descriptions rather than dividing them up Produce a single paper to turn in for the whole group
