1 Meet the teacher 2018 Welcome- thank you for coming, great to put faces to students’ names. My name is Amy Downs Tuck and I am your child’s teacher this year. This is my third year teaching here at Oatley Public School, previously taught year 1 for two years and am enjoying the challenge of a ½ composite this year. I am also looking forward to working with you and your children in partnership this year. A little about me… I am originally from the Blue Mountains and moved to South Sydney a year ago- I am still getting used to the heat of Sydney and enjoy getting back to the Mountains to cool down occasionally. This year I am coordinating chess club and the junior choir within the school. I am also part of the Quality Teaching team at OPS leading staff in professional learning. My interests lie in the pedagogy of teaching Mathematics as well as the creative and performing arts. I hope that this afternoon is helpful and not too boring! I will try and speak succinctly so we have some time for any of your questions to be answered at the end. Miss Amy Downs Tuck, Miss Jade Mieszcuk, Mrs Lauren Edwards and Miss Lorena Fernandez

8 CAN YOU HELP? The InitiaLit Reading Group Program in Year 1 for Term 1 is about developing student independence in reading tasks. Year 1 will not need parent helpers this Term however we will be seeking assistance later in the year. Before committing yourself to helping in the classroom, we ask parents to sign a child protection declaration, sign on and off at the visitors register and wear a visitors badge, and come without younger children when helping

9 CONERNS Please feel free to make an appointment to speak with your classroom teacher in regards to your child’s learning in the classroom During pick up time in the afternoon’s it is our duty of care to ensure all the children go home with their parents or caregivers so we would appreciate if you did not approach us during this time Appointments can be made by phoning the office

10 THANK YOU! We look forward to another productive and rewarding year working with you and your child in Year 1!
