POSITIVE COACHING SCOTLAND UNDERSTANDING INNER AND OUTER SKILLS
Often coaches focus on just the outer skills – positive coaches focus on both the inner and outer skills Successfully coaching young athletes means developing the athlete, but also developing the young person. Coaches should intentionally develop both the inner and outer skills of young athletes. Outer skills Outer skills generally focus on the physical attributes such as: Speed Power Strength Inner Skills Coaching a young person’s inner skills is the opportunity to develop the athlete, but also the person - inner skills include: Leadership Resilience Self belief COACHING CHALLENGE Take some time to review your last coaching session – did you intentionally develop both the inner and outer skills of young athletes?
