7. Top Messages in Yolo County
(BRAIN DEVELOPMENT) Research shows that 90% of a child’s brain development occurs before age five. These critical years lay the foundation for the rest of a child’s life. By expanding access to quality pre-school, we can help ensure that every child in Yolo County gets off to strong start.
(SCHOOL READINESS) By increasing access to quality pre-school programs, this measure strengthens K-12 education. Studies show that kids who go to high quality pre-school are more likely to read proficiently by the third grade, and more likely to graduate and go on to college.
(FAMILIES) Many of the homeless households in Yolo County are families with children. Children need stability, shelter, and early access to education so they can grow into their full potential. This measure helps homeless children get that chance.
(ROADS/CHEAPER NOW) This measure provides funding for every community to better maintain its roads and to fix potholes, which costs far less in the long run than replacing roads after they have started to crumble.
(ACCOUNTABILITY/LOCAL CONTROL) This measure includes strict accountability provisions such as independent citizens’ oversight of spending, public spending reports, and annual independent financial audits. All funds must be used only in Yolo County.
