3. What is expected at the end of Y6?
The 2014 Curriculum
In 2014, the new Curriculum was launched.
However, the first time it used in the SATs was in May 2016.
How challenging is it to achieve Age Related Expectations (A.R.E.)?

It is widely accepted that the content of the Curriculum is more challenging than in the previous Curriculum.

5. What is expected at the end of Y6?
The children will be tested in:
Maths (3 tests – arithmetic and reasoning [x2])
Grammar, punctuation and spelling (2 tests)
Reading comprehension (1 test)
Writing (Teacher Assessed)

6. What is expected at the end of Y6?
The children will be tested in:
Maths (3 tests – arithmetic and reasoning [x2])
Pass mark is around 60% (out of 110); G.D. 90%
Grammar, punctuation and spelling (2 tests)
Pass mark is around 65% (out of 70); G.D. 90%
Reading comprehension (1 test)
Pass mark is around 45% (out of 50); G.D. 80%
Writing (Teacher Assessed)

7. What will we be doing in school?
All children will be working on the Year 6 age related expectations this year in the hope that they will gain the skills required to meet the national standards. The teachers will also focus on gaps from previous year groups content – there’s lots to do!
The children are now grouped in the following ways:
Maths and English
3 parallel groups with a mixture of attainers.
Interventions with children with similar gaps in their learning, taken from all classes
Writing Leaders group with Mr Isaacs to extend highest attaining writers.
Guided Reading
Taught four times a week as part of whole class teaching.
GPaS
Taught as part of every English lesson and once a week in whole class.
Interventions
Those needing extra support will continue to have a programme of intervention that meets their needs.

8. What will we be doing in school?
We are continuing to use our new assessment programme Learning Ladders. This allows us to …
Break down areas of the curriculum in to small chunks
Develop confidence and mastery of specific areas of learning in the curriculum
Provide opportunities for children to apply their learning
Track progress within subjects in detail
Set targets with the children to increase the rate of progress
Identify gaps and fill them
In writing, we have target sheets at the front of children’s books which are taken straight from Learning Ladders. This will help them with understanding what they need to focus on and include in their writing.

9. What will we NOT be doing in school?
We will NOT be throwing out the rest of the curriculum!
At Millbrook, we are passionate about an exciting, stimulating curriculum that develops the whole child and their skills for life and not just their skills in Maths and English.
We provide opportunities to develop English and Maths skills throughout a varied and wide range of topics and subjects.
However, we continue have a balance of Art, Music, Science, PSHE, RE, DT, PE (including swimming), Geography and History.
In Year 6, as children are going to start experiencing changes (school, puberty etc.), we aim to support them deal with these as best as possible, for example PSHE, P4C and SRE teaching.

10. Homework in Year 6
All children- 15mins reading daily. Every child has a Reading Record book to be filled in when they read both at home and in school.
Homework will be set in English, Mathematics, Topic or Science and will be recorded in their Learning Logs.
Children will have more choice over the way they produce homework in their logs (illustrations, diagrams, written work).
Homework diaries / Learning Logs should signed regularly by parents and teachers to support learning.
DB Primary role-out: it is happening this term.
