But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be My witnesses…

Who is your Bible hero ?

May: Witness #5: Mary, Jesus’ Mother - A Willing Witness for God
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Luke 1:38 (NIV)

Scriptures (NIV) “On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” 4 “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. 8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” 11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. 12 After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.” John 2:1-12

“13 When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. 14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.” Acts 1:12-14 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. 9They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. Proverbs 1:8-9 My son, keep your father’s command and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. Proverbs 6:20 Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity. I Timothy 5:2 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Colossians 3:20

Leviticus 20:9 – “‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death. Because they have cursed their father or mother, their blood will be on their own head. Proverbs 31: – Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. 31 Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

Godly motherhood is an honorable position, and deserves to be respected.

4. Moms are our teachers. Listen and obey them.

John 2: 1-12 – On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. There they stayed for a few days.

Proverbs 1:8-9 – Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. 9 They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. Proverbs 6:20 – My son, keep your father’s command and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. Philippians 2:5-8 – In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Colossians 3:20 –  Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.

Jesus obeyed His mother so that, overall, we will follow His example of obedience.
