1 DRINKING WATER

2 WILL THIS BE OUR DRINKING WATER IN THE FUTURE?
Using a Janicki Omni-processor!

3 WHERE DOES OUR DRINKING WATER COME FROM?
On LI we pump our drinking water from aquifers found below the ground. 90% of our water comes from the Magothy Aquifer.

4 WHERE DOES OUR DRINKING WATER COME FROM?
An aquifer is a layer of rock or soil that is full of water.

5 WHERE DOES NYC GET DRINKING WATER FROM?
NYC uses several reservoirs (lakes) to collect water. It is carried to NYC through aqueducts (pipes) to water treatment plants.

6 WHERE DO DESERT COMMUNITIES GET DRINKING WATER COME FROM?
River water can be pumped to treatment plants over long distances.

7 HOW DOES DRINKING WATER GET TO OUR HOMES?
Drinking water is sent to a treatment plant. 1 2 3 4 5 Storage Tank GRAVEL SAND CHARCOAL

8 Coagulation Chemicals are added to water which attract dirt and other particles suspended in water. 1 2 3 4 5 Storage Tank GRAVEL SAND CHARCOAL

9 Sedimentation The heavy dirt particles settle to the bottom of treatment tanks, allowing them to separate from the water. 1 2 3 4 5 Storage Tank GRAVEL SAND CHARCOAL

10 Filtration The water passes through filters of gravel, sand and charcoal to help remove even smaller particles. 1 2 3 4 5 Storage Tank GRAVEL SAND CHARCOAL

11 Disinfection Chlorine is added or other disinfection methods (UV light) are used to kill bacteria and microorganisms in the water. 1 2 3 4 5 Storage Tank GRAVEL SAND CHARCOAL

12 Storage Water is pumped up into a tank for storage
Storage Water is pumped up into a tank for storage. Water then flows, due to gravity, through pipes to homes and businesses in the community. 1 2 3 4 5 Storage Tank GRAVEL SAND CHARCOAL

13 WHAT ARE ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO GET DRINKING WATER?
Water can be collected directly from a river or pumped from a well. This water needs to be treated for contamination.

14 WHAT ARE ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO GET DRINKING WATER?
Rain water can be collected from roofs. This water can be treated for drinking or used to water lawns/gardens.

15 WHAT ARE ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO GET DRINKING WATER?
DESALINIZATION of salt water through an intense filtering system called reverse osmosis. It is at this time costly. Existing facilities Aruba, Australia, Bahrain China, Hong Kong, India Israel, Oman, Saudi Arabia Spain, United Arab Emirates United Kingdom, United States

16 OR, WILL A JANICKI OMNI-PROCESSOR MAKE DRINKING WATER IN THE FUTURE?

17 SUMMARY: Drinking water comes from different sources.
Drinking water must be treated prior to use to reduce disease. There are alternative methods to supplying drinking water.
