Fig. 2 Proportion of patients with severe symptoms by four major disease groups (n=112). Patients with a diagnosis of breast, gastrointestinal, gynecological, or lung cancer were compared in terms of proportions of severe (≥7 on a 0–10 scale) vs. nonsevere fatigue (a), disturbed sleep (b), lack of appetite (c), and sadness (d). Chi-square tests for proportions were computed to detect significant association between each of the four symptoms and the four disease groups. There was a significant association between disease category and fatigue (X2=10.7, P<0.05) and between disease category and lack of appetite (X2=10.8, P<0.05). Disturbed sleep and sadness showed no significant association. GI=gastrointestinal cancer; GYN=gynecological cancer.
