25. According to Child Trends, a national child, youth, and family research organization:
“Integrated Student Supports (ISS) are a school- based approach to promoting students’ academic success by developing or securing and coordinating supports that target academic and non-academic barriers to achievement” (Child Trends, 2014).

The theory of change is aligned with Child/Youth Development Theory
Child- centered approach – not school centered
Life course perspective – what happens early - effects what happens later on

Ecological theory – sees the child’s context as critical influences
The WISSP is based both in what Child Trends is learning about ISS models, our legislation and what some Washington schools, districts, ESDs, families and community based organization are already doing well.
