6 International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program
The IB Program is a comprehensive and challenging pre-university course that demands the best from both motivated students and teachers.  This sophisticated two-year curriculum covers a wide range of academic subjects and has stood the test of time for over half a million students in 138 countries since 1968. 

7 Benefits of the IB Program
Higher university and college acceptance rates for IB graduates than for total population applicants Increased scholarship and grant opportunities A college level academic program that transitions students to university and college standards Interdisciplinary instruction to encourage international-mindedness Fostering of lifelong learning Teacher  development using IB strategies Typically, diploma holders are ready to debate real-world issues from an international perspective and to provide leadership and support in the local and global community. 

8 IB Prep and Application Process
To prepare for the program in grades 11 and 12, freshmen and sophomores take Honors/Pre Diploma Program classes in English, social studies, and science along with appropriate mathematics and foreign language courses. Applications can be received from your Middle School Guidance Counselor in January. (January 2018 or 2019 for our current scholars) Ms. Willis is located in the office just outside of the teacher’s lounge. This application is for current 8th grade students to enter a Pre-Diploma Program cohort of 9th students who will be considered for the IB Diploma Programme in grade 11 in the following high schools: Central, Crossland, Frederick Douglass, Laurel, Parkdale, or Suitland.  Once you begin the online application, you will need to finish.  You will not be able to save it so you can finish it later. 

9 IB Prep and Application Process
Your first step is to gather the following information before you start the application.       Read about the IB Diploma Program in PGCPS      Use SchoolFinder to locate your IB program school if unsure:      Write your essay on the topic below.  Save it on your computer, Google Drive, or USB drive. Here is the topic: International Baccalaureate Learners strive to be: Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open Minded, Caring, Risk Takers, Balanced, and Reflective of a global society. Select one of the above listed attributes and describe an experience where you demonstrated that characteristic. (250 to 300 words) The topic will likely NOT be the same for our students. This is just an example.

15 Science and Tech Program FAQs
Testing See your counselor for info First week of December at Prep – PSAT manuals Math: Pre Algebra Verbal: Reading comprehension and word analogy. Results sent in the mail between the middle of January and beginning of February. Decisions are made based on GPA and Test Scores Top students accepted GPA Q1 7th Grade Q1 thru Q1 8th Grade Calculated based on Math, English, Science and Social Studies only Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA and receive no less than a C in any STEM or English course to remain in the program.

16 Academy of Health and Sciences
After years of research, planning, and consultations, representatives of Prince George's County Public Schools and Prince George's Community College opened Maryland's first Middle College High School in Largo, MD. Academy of Health Sciences at Prince George's Community College focuses on preparing students to enter a college program in the Health Sciences field. The students at the Academy of Health Sciences will receive by the end of their fourth year, a high school diploma and an Associate Degree in General Studies, in the Health Sciences. 

17 Academy of Health and Sciences
In July 2011, the first class of students, 100 incoming ninth-graders, arrived for a three week summer bridge program. Today, students are thriving and completing a rigorous curriculum to address Prince George's County need to build a qualified healthcare workforce. A class was added each year until the academy reached full enrollment, roughly 400 students in grades All Prince George’s County students are eligible to apply.

18 Academy of Health and Sciences
Target Population Rising 9th Graders, 100 Students per grade level, beginning with a 9th grade class, Current Enrollment 407 students Years 1 thru 4. The application process ensures: Fifty percent of the seats will go to students from low-socio economic homes, and/or first general college; Equity of participation from all areas of Prince George’s County; Admission is contingent upon student participation in a summer Bridge Program which runs for 2 weeks in July. Eighth grade students must take an entrance exam that is administered at their schools in December. Students not enrolled in PGCPS must access the online application on the PGCPS website. Middle school counselors have access to the electronic application for students enrolled in PGCPS and will print the e-application for students interested in applying for admission

19 Dual Enrollment Program
Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) high school juniors and seniors have the opportunity to earn college credit, while still in high school through the Dual Enrollment Program. PGCPS will pay tuition for all students dually enrolled in qualified courses at any Maryland public college or university. Fees and textbooks will be paid for students who receive free and reduced meals. PGCPS currently has formal agreements, Memorandum of Understandings, with Prince George's Community College and Bowie State University. As part of the agreement, the list of courses that receive both high school and college credit have been identified. Additionally, the college shares student grades directly with PGCPS.

20 Dual Enrollment Program
Accuplacer Testing High school juniors and seniors, with a 2.5 minimum GPA, have an opportunity to take the Accuplacer test, at their high school, free of charge. T The Accuplacer is a college placement exam that is administered online. Detailed information about the test is found here: Students should check with their high school for the scheduled test date, during the month of February. Students are only permitted to take the exam once during this time. Sample Accuplacer test questions and study guide app are located at - Students who have previously taken the exam, and are satisfied with their scores, are not required to retake it.  For more information speak to Ms. Willis or Application dates for PG Community – November 15th Bowie has open enrollment online until all classes are full.
