1 Leap Day 2018 Welcome to Third Grade
Welcome the students / parents. Introduce who is in the room. Parents don’t always know faces and names of teachers that have not had their children yet. Students: Show them your excitement about them coming! SELL!! Parents: Thank them for coming. You are excited to have their children next year. Remember – the best is yet to come!

Schedule of the Day 8:05 Morning Routine/Mass one day per week 8:15 Math and Language Arts Block 9:45 Snack 10:00 Religion 10:30 Spelling 10:50 Special Class 11:30 Reading 12:00 Handwriting 12:30 Recess/Lunch 1:30 Science 2:00 History 2:45 Pack and Cleanup for Dismissal 3:00 Dismissal MS – HS typical day MWF and T TH Lower school typical day. Insert of a “schedule” image would be great here!

4 Subjects Core Foundational Learning Areas Math
Emphasis on Computation; Use of technology using IXL/STAR Language Arts Grammar: emphasis on foundational knowledge Structure and Style using Institute for Excellence in Writing Vertically aligned to achieve 5 paragraph essay by end of 5th grade Reading Leveled reading up to 5th grade Support for struggling readers Classic stories, poetry and novels STAR Testing for skill assessment and to direct instruction Increased use of Library and independent reading using AR program Add teacher names to give details – lets everyone put faces to subjects. Any other details to add about courses? Don’t forget specialists! Note frequency – once a week, 30 minutes, etc.

Increased level of learning and responsibility for studying with parent support Homework expectation is 45 minutes. Studying is part of homework. Learning how to study: methods and tips on how to study different ways for success Parents assist the “How to study process at home” Study with your students Increased level of grammar and writing with IEW Formation Program geared to Emotional, Behavioral and Social skills Hands On History and Science Outdoor learning S T Some of this should come from your parent presentation at the start of the year. They don’t need details of folders home, etc. But overview type information. P

Stand out from others at THS? Compared to other schools?
