William Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford in England. He married Anne Hathaway in In about 1590 Shakespeare moved to London. He worked as an actor and writer.

Romeo and Juliet appeared in 1594 and Hamlet appeared in His plays were very succesful. By 1610 he was rich and he retired to Stratford. He died on 23rd April, 1616.

Nearly four hundred years later, he is still very famous; millions of people all over the world read his works and see his plays in theatres, in cinemas and on television. There are recent film versions of Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet (starring Leonardo di Caprio) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, for example.
