What is the CVC?
8
CVC Data CCCs only – 12,875 rows!
Note Subject numbers RAW DATA Lots of columns with “interesting” data that’s not pertinent to this discussion, so…
9
Note single subject column
Formatted Data Removed extraneous columns OEI provides key
10
Creating Counts of Courses by Subject
The top sheet is just a list of subjects. I added a column for “count” and a formula that goes to the sheet with the formatted data (called “LessData”) and counts each row that contains that subject number. Remember though that there were 3 subject columns, and this is only looking at the first one.

Gap Analysis Subjects SRJC does not offer online, but other CCCs do

Looking at Demand “Demand” in this case comes from a report we get called “hits after close.” It’s a fairly non-scientific approach to demand that tabulates the number of times a student tries to enroll in a section that is already closed. That doesn’t, of course, take into account the students who look at the schedule, see the course is closed and move on. What this should tell is us that when students can’t get into our sections, they’re probably going to find other colleges that have open seats.

Subject Code Confusion
> 300 courses had subject = 0/null Some subjects seemed unclear to coders Some courses appear to be coded incorrectly Some subjects seemed to fall into more than one category
15
Data Errors Our campus has noticed on occasion that some of our online courses are missing from the listings I also noticed that some of our courses had some errors in the details I have heard from others that they have sometimes had the same experience
16
How We Can Help Clean Up the Data?
In order to help “clean up” the CVC data, please contact Amy Carbonaro at She will give each college an “editor” account so that errors can be corrected.
17
Areas that can be edited

cccdeco.org Where to Find the Data
It’s on the CVC “roadmap” to add a data download button at some point in the future
