1 Native American Vocabulary
Culture- a way of life projectile point- a sharpened rock Rituals- ceremonies Palisade-a fence of pointed stakes that were 12 to 20 feet high Longhouse-A longhouse or long house is a type of long, proportionately narrow, single-room building built by Native Americans.

Hostility- violent behavior. Conflict. Migrate- To move from one place to the next. Landbridge mile frozen connection along the Bering Strait. Where the 1st Native Americans crossed over from Asia. Eastern Woodlands- Group of Native Americans from several tribes that lived East of the Mississippi around 1000BC AD.

Cherokee- Lived in the Mountain area and the NW part of the state. People of different speech. Catawba- People of the river. Very powerful. Piedmont region. Yamassee- Lived near Hilton Head. Farmers and strong warriors.

Prehistory- the time before people keep written records Artifacts- old materials such as arrowheads, broken pots and broken tools Nomads- wanderers who followed their food supply where ever it went. Slash and Burn Agriculture-is the process of cutting down the vegetation in a particular plot of land, setting fire to the remaining foliage, and using the ashes to provide nutrients to the soil for use of planting food crops.

Immunity- natural resistance Hominy- is a mixture of corn, water, and lye that is cooked for about four hours Wigwam- a type of circular house Three Sistesters- pole beans, squash, corn. Shoman- Senior member of the tribe. The story teller. Keeps sthe history.
